Next Xbox rumors to require internet connection, used games wont work and more

With the announcement of the PS4 looming closer everyday rumors of the next Xbox are starting to leak out. Some of them seem totally plausible like it using Blu-ray disks.

Some of the other rumors like how it wont play used games and requires an internet connection to function seems unlikely. I don't think Microsoft would do those things unless they really didn't care that the majority of gamers would revolt against the system.

'Small Number' of Xbox 360s Unable To Play Game Disks After Update

Microsoft will change the way 360's read disks with an update in order to free up some space on game disks. Unfortunately for some it's just made everything worse. After the update a "very small number of Xbox 360 owners" were unable to play retail disks.

Microsoft has however reached out to those affected, offering them a replacement Xbox 360 S. The company released this statement.

"Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs. This issue manifests itself as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console."

UPDATE:  "Clarification time! The console replacement plan that is the subject of some of today’s headlines is related to a previous update, NOT the system update that has been in public beta and will be deployed shortly. The new disc format that is part of the beta has been rigorously tested across all Xbox 360 models and there are no known compatibility issues. Hope that clears a few things up." Kinect priced at $150, includes Kinect Adventures

The mystery for the Kinect price point is over, Microsoft will be selling the Kinect bundle for 150 USD. That includes the Kinect Adventures game as well as the camera.

As for the games, Microsoft has stated that Kinect first party games (Kinectimals, Kinect Sports, Kinect Joy Ride) will retail for 50 dollars. Considering that Harmonix's Dance Central will also retail for 50 dollars were willing to bet that all other non first party games will cost 50 as well.

A lot of news has been coming out of X10 (Microsoft's press event). Here's something a lot of fans have been asking for a long time, an updated version of Perfect Dark. As you can see in the video above, Perfect Dark will be in 1080p and will have local split screen multiplayer, (something recent shooters have forgotten how to do) as well as 8 player online via Xbox Live. Perfect Dark is set to release sometime in March on Xbox Live Arcade.
