Sony giving some PSN users 10 bucks for being loyal customers
I started hearing people on twitter saying they were receiving 10 dollars from Sony for being "loyal customers." It sounded fake but I fired up my PS3 just in case and sure enough I received a message from Sony.
The message was exactly that, 10 dollars as thanks for being a loyal customer. I don't know exactly how they're choosing people or how many of them are being sent out. To receive the money just click on the voucher at the bottom of the message and it will take you to the PSN store. A code will appear on the screen and you just have to accept. After that the 10 dollars will be added to your account.
Sony's big PS4 announcement is tomorrow so we'll see if this is related to that in any way. Either way good on Sony for thanking their customers like this.
PlayStation 4 leaked prototype controller and rumors
A prototype of the PS4 controller has been leaked onto the internet. The controller seems to be from a dev kit and features the rumored touch screen in the center. Also apparently the PS4 will be able to stream PS3 games using Gaikai.
Sony's new system will also have a higher-fidelity version of the Playstation Move camera. All these are rumors for now but on Feb. 20 Sony should clear up any questions we currently have.

Sony teases PS4 announcement?
Sony released a teaser trailer for what people are expecting to be the PS4 announcement. The video ends with the date Feb 20 so it's most likely that the PS4 (Orbis) will be revealed on that date.
The new PlayStation Store redesign is live
I got to say I really like this redesign of the PS store. Everything is neatly displayed and categorized for your shopping pleasure. I know some people have had some speed issues but the store has been running fast and smooth for me. Maybe it's because I'm using it after the initial rush but everything has been perfect from my experience.
Maybe we'll get a redesign of the XMB now, but then again they might just wait and use it on the PS4.
Smaller, lighter PS3 model unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show
The 250GB one costs 270 dollars but there will be a limited edition bundle that comes with Uncharted 3 Game of the Year edition and DLC for Dust 514.
PlayStation 3 firmware 4.1 update out now
- You can now set the system in the settings to automatically acquire the current date/time when you sign in to PlayStation Network
- The Internet Browser was updated and will now display previously incompatible sites.
- Finally the latest update changes your PlayStation Network account to the new Sony Entertainment Network Account naming.
Sony to become more strict on PSN game sharing
You know the drill you and four other friends share an account so that you can share each others PSN purchases. Well no more says Sony beginning Nov. 18 PSN licenses can be tied to only two PS3s or two PSPs (purchases before that date will not count).
You will, however, be able to activate and deactivate consoles online.

PlayStation Vita to launch outside Japan on February 22, 2012
Head of SCEA Jack Tretton announced that the PlayStation Vita will launch on February 22, 2012 in the US. That day will also be the launch date of the Vita in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia as well.
The PlayStation Vita will launch at $249 for the WiFi model and $299 for the 3G model.

Some Vita games to require memory card
As of now the launch games that will require an external memory card include Ridge Racer, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention, Hot Shots Golf 6, and the AR title Monster Radar. Also included is every game bought directly from the PSN store.

Sony cuts price on PS3's to $250
At a keynote at Gamescom 2011 Sony announced that they have dropped the price of the PS3 to 249 euros and dollars. That price is for the 160 GB model but the 320 GB model will also drop it's price down to 299.

Playstation Vita launch delayed to 2012 in North America and Europe
According Hirai the delay is because they want to have a solid launch lineup of games for each region, though we still don't have any indication as to what games are going to be there day one.
And if you think there will be some type of price drop for the Vita as a response to the 3DS price drop, think again. "We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable. There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price," said Hirai.
Nintendo is in a vulnerable spot right now in regards to the 3DS. With this delay Sony is giving Nintendo the opportunity to be the "Hot Item" come this holiday season which may backfire on them in the long run.

Sony starting it's own "Online Pass" begining with Resistance 3
Remember EA's "Online Pass" where if you buy a used game you have to pay 10 dollars to activate the online, well unfortunately other companies are starting to follow suit. In this case it's Sony with their new program that will start with Resistance 3.
Not all the details have been revealed so there's some speculation going around the internet about certain aspect of the program. Here's some of the things that have not been confirmed.
- Whether or not this will apply to all Sony games in the future
- If they'll restrict full online functionality or just partial
Here's the statement, "We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities. This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title. This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio."
