New Wii U firmware update

There's a new firmware update available for the Wii U. The update is 593 MB and is supposed to improve overall system stability. Seems a bit big for just system stability stuff but we'll see. I'm downloading the update as I write this so I'll add any new info as it becomes available.

UPDATE: So the patch was for system stuff. Addressing things like load times and system lockups.

The 3DS also has a system update for "stability" which doesn't add anything noticeable. One thing to note, Nintendo is having one of their "Nintendo directs" tomorrow morning so these updates may have something more to them.

Xbox dashboard update rolling out now

The new Xbox dashboard update is now being rolled out so if you haven't received it yet you will soon. This new dashboard borrows heavily from Microsoft's new metro look which is used in Windows Phone 7 as well as Windows 8.

'Small Number' of Xbox 360s Unable To Play Game Disks After Update

Microsoft will change the way 360's read disks with an update in order to free up some space on game disks. Unfortunately for some it's just made everything worse. After the update a "very small number of Xbox 360 owners" were unable to play retail disks.

Microsoft has however reached out to those affected, offering them a replacement Xbox 360 S. The company released this statement.

"Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs. This issue manifests itself as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console."

UPDATE:  "Clarification time! The console replacement plan that is the subject of some of today’s headlines is related to a previous update, NOT the system update that has been in public beta and will be deployed shortly. The new disc format that is part of the beta has been rigorously tested across all Xbox 360 models and there are no known compatibility issues. Hope that clears a few things up." UPDATE: Bethesda Warns Not To Install Latest Xbox 360 Fallout: New Vegas Patch

If you have an Xbox 360 and play Fallout: New Vegas DO NOT update it with the latest patch. The reason, because players had their Xbox 360's crash upon loading game saves.

Bethesda had this to say, "Regarding the Xbox 360 update, we’ve discovered a solution to the issue that’s causing problems with game saves. We’ll be hosting a replacement update on Xbox LIVE as soon as humanly possible. If you haven’t grabbed the New Vegas update on 360 today, we recommend you decline the update until the new one is live. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s up."

UPDATE:  The problem seems to be ironed out, it's now safe to update.
