Wii U final format at E3, new 2D side-scrolling Mario for 3DS

"We are planning to showcase the final format and discuss the details at E3 2012, which will be held in Los Angeles in the United States in June this year," said Iwata.

It looks like the Wii U might be different by the time E3 rolls around. And if your wondering when the Wii U might launch?

"Today, I’d like to confirm that we will launch the Wii U in Japan, the U.S., Europe and Australia in time for the year-end sales season."

He also announced a new Mario game.

"Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year."

So a new 2D Mario game coming to the 3DS, I wonder if it will be like New Super Mario Bros or maybe a cartoon style like Wario Land: Shake It.

Nintendo announces new Mario game for 3DS

Nintendo was at GDC this year and they brought with them some new announcements. One of those announcements was the reveal of a brand new Mario game. They didn't show much, just the logo (which is not final) and a screenshot (found after the break).

Iwata also brought some attention to the tail at the end of the logo telling us to stay tuned for E3. That tail looks awfully similar to the Tanooki tail on the Super Mario Bros 3 logo.

Iwata also mentioned that the game is being made by the team behind the Super Mario Galaxy games. The game is in 3D but no release time frame was given.
